WHO IS SHADADOW?
At just nine years old, a young South Side Chicago kid picked up his mother’s cassette camcorder and unknowingly stepped into his purpose creating a homemade short film called Ghetto Fabulous with his friends. Armed with curiosity and imagination, he pressed record without realizing that moment would shape his entire creative identity. But filmmaking wasn’t his only early spark.
A Mind Ahead of Its Time
Long before he mastered editing or cinematography, Shadadow was already thinking like a futurist. Around the same age he was filming Ghetto Fabulous, he submitted a concept drawing to EventTech outlining an idea for a handheld touch-screen device that could play videos, watch TV, and operate far beyond anything available at the time. His mind always lived ahead of its time, imagining technology that wouldn’t become mainstream until years later. This revealed a creator whose imagination stretched beyond film and deep into innovation and design.
Rediscovering the Spark at Age 20
Life eventually pulled him away from filmmaking, but when he turned twenty (around 2011), the spark returned with clarity and intention. With access to his sister’s laptop full of Adobe programs, he began teaching himself the digital tools that would define his storytelling. Out of the entire Adobe suite, three programs stood out and became his core foundation: Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop the tools he studied and mastered day and night.
Chicago Roots & Global Perspective
No influence shaped him more than the city that raised him. The South Side of Chicago built his discipline, creativity, and hunger. For years, his world was the South Side and downtown two contrasting environments that molded his eye, timing, rhythm, and resilience. A major turning point came through traveling. Visits to places like Accra, Dubai, London, exc expanded his worldview and introduced him to new cultures, flavors, and ways of living. Earning his associate’s degree pushed his growth further. Becoming a father deepened his purpose and sharpened his focus.
